In 2019, Tyson lost his vision due to a rare mitochondrial disease. He thought he would never heli-ski again and unfortunately had to leave his role as part of the guiding team at Great Canadian Heli-Skiing. Great Canadian has invited him back to the lodge and donated a heli-skiing experience for Braille Mountain Initiative to help raise funds for their future trips to giving the blind and visually impaired equal access to the back country and to fulfill his dream of heli-skiing as a blind skier! Another blind skier named Mark Bentz will be joining him in this dream come true. Mark went blind at a young age and thought the Warren Miller experience he had seen in movies would never happen for him. On March 30th, Mark will receive the adventure of a lifetime. You can help Mark and Tyson provide life-changing backcountry adventures like this one by supporting this campaign. All funds will go towards Braille Mountain Initiative. You can donate a flat amount or make a per meter pledge. With the help of 2 of the lead guides, Mark and Tyson will attempt to ski 25,000 vertical feet (7600m)!
Braille Mountain Initiative is a nonprofit organization with the focus of inspiring blind and visually impaired athletes to participate in back country mountain sports and creating opportunities for them to do so.
